Meet Eleanor Grant

I am a confirmand here at Luther place. In confirmation we discuss the bible and have conversations about faith, but I never really thought about why I was choosing to get confirmed, why I was choosing to follow an idea that has been taught to me since birth, until a few months ago. At the beginning of this year I still hadn’t been able to come up with a good reason for getting confirmed. Why should I get confirmed? Why should I believe in something that I cannot see? But that’s what religion is all about isn’t it? It’s the hope that there is something out there watching over us. It’s feeling loved by something we’ve never met in person. It’s holding on to the writing’s of strangers from hundreds of years ago. It’s praying to something that may just be a figment of our imagination. But still we hold on to the hope that there is someone or something out there that is bigger than you or me. Something that loves us as their own children. Someone that pushes us to be kind and loving to our friends and enemies. Something that always encourages us to care for those in need. I may not know everything there is to know about being Lutheran. I do know that this is something I want to be a part of. And I’m going to be honest with you, I was seriously thinking hard about not getting confirmed until I started coming to confirmation and youth group with Krista and Justin, they both are so kind and caring all the time. Both of them have just supported and accepted us throughout this entire process. And I truly believe that had it not been for them, I would not be standing in front of you here today to get confirmed. In addition I would als like to thank my parents, Sarah, Caroline, Aiden, Ben, Nate, Anika, and Pili and Trevour for going on this journey with me. And lastly, because I love musicals, I would like to leave you with a quote from the musical rent, there is no day but today. Take that with you this week and try to make the most out of every day. Smile at a stranger. Compliment people. Start a conversation with someone new. Protest congress when you need too. But remember, No day but today.
