Luther Place Big Read

“The Cross and the Lynching Tree” by James Cone: Two powerful symbols — the cross and the lynching tree — are prevalent motifs interwoven in the lives of African Americans. In his book, theologian James Cone notes, ”The crucifixion of Jesus by the Romans in Jerusalem and the lynching of blacks by whites in the United States are so amazingly similar that one wonders what blocks the American Christian imagination from seeing the connection.” For three weeks, beginning on Sunday, September 16th, Pastor Tony Carpenter and Gary Maring will lead a series of Adult Spiritual Formation conversations on the book. Everyone is invited. If you have trouble securing a copy of the book, please contact Gary Maring
