When I listen to the news of the world – conflicts between peoples, hunger, poverty, grief, natural disasters, hate, and violence – I can be discouraged. Where is God in these times of despair? Where is the canopy to shield the people from the harsh heat and shelter from the storm?
God is in the presence of God’s people. Those who show up and stand witness. Those who cry out and those who comfort. Those who offer water and bread and warmth and hope. Whenever 2 or more of God’s peoples are together in community, God is there. Stitching a canopy that will shelter those who seek its shade.
Oh Lord, we cry out for comfort, for defense of the weak and needy, for justice. Hear the cries of your people. Empower your servants to see the need in their communities and to feel your presence as they love one another. Amen.
