Readings: Psalm 126, Isaiah 40:1-11, Romans 8:22-25
In Advent, as we wait in hope, we are enlarged as a pregnant woman. (Romans 8:25)
What will the baby we are waiting for be like?
In the afternoons I read with John, age seven, a second grader at Thomson Elementary School on 12 and L streets. He is a faithful attendee of our ArtSmart camp hosted at Luther Place during the month of July. This past September he asked me, “When will camp start up again?” (I didn’t have the heart to tell him that he had to wait for 10 months!) Moreover, he was “recruiting” fellow students to come to the camp next July by telling them how wonderful the other kids and the activities were at our church.
We have been blessed at Luther Place with an amazing history and many accomplishments. “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are glad.” (Psalm 126:3) As we continue in our ministries of hospitality and justice, let us be reborn, open our doors wider, and involve more of our neighbors and friends. “He shall feed His flock, like a shepherd.” (Isaiah 40:11)
