Times & What to Expect
Located in the heart of the Nation’s Capital, Luther Place offers worship, hospitality, and service to both residents and the millions of tourists visiting Washington, D.C. So whether you are looking for a church home or visiting D.C. only briefly, you are welcome! Our congregation includes people of different ages, races & ethnicities, sexual orientations — people from all walks of life. If you are looking for a church committed to the expansive Gospel of Jesus Christ, come see what we offer.
We are a liturgical church, and we follow the lectionary calendar for our worship on Sunday mornings. We follow the order of the Mass and we sometimes use processions both inside and outside of the Sanctuary. Our music comes from a broad range of places and is dynamically led by a community choir to which all ages are invited to participate. We offer a children’s sermon each Sunday, and the Pastor’s sermon is dynamic and often participatory. Sermons will occasionally follow a series theme based on the church season. We consider worship to be an opportunity for shared leadership and invite people into the regular roles of assisting minister, readers, greeters, and communion assistants. Each week, we seek for the congregation to have an experience of God’s grace.
Sundays at Luther Place
- 9:15 am Spiritual Formation for Children, Youth (Chapel) & Adults (Library)
- 9:30 am Community Choir Rehearsal (Sanctuary) — Come as you are!
- 10:30 am Worship Service with Communion
- 5:00 pm Evening Worship Service
Children are an important part of the family of God and are welcome at all services. For the very young (baby-5 years old), a nursery is available before, during, and after the 10:30 am Worship service. We also offer children’s activity bags that include crayons, coloring books, and other activities that may be used during the service to keep active hands occupied. Children ages 5 and older are welcome to use the activity table in the back of the Sanctuary.
Luther Place would like to invite you to a new set of services, held on Sunday evenings at 5:00 pm.
Worship is led by musicians from Howard University, and includes time for prayer/mediation, Holy Communion around the table, and music throughout! Plan on praying with us, lifting your voice in song, dancing if the Spirit moves you, and digging into the word.
Please contact Music Minister Jeremy Grenhart at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
